Rock Out 2 Come Out!
LGBT, NewsBites — By Speak Equal on October 10, 2009 at 8:04 pmHey Everyone!
I read something today, and I want you to know that it made me think of each and every one of you:
“… a new generation of energetic younger gay-marriage leaders don’t care. They are pushing lawsuits in Texas, Louisiana, California and elsewhere against the advice of their elders. They organized this March and are pushing Obama to make overturning DOMA huge priority. They have no clue what the rest of America thinks and frankly they do not really care.
‘Some of the next generation of LGBT opinion leaders think more boldly than the preceding generation,” freshman Congressional representative Jared Polis told the Post. “We grew up in a different environment than people who grew up in the 1960s or the 1970s.’”
Certain organizations think our push for equality is a waste of time, money, and effort. Some people prefer to keep us in our marginalized corners and spaces, happy as long as we remain separate and conveniently, “out of their way.” Still more continue to remain focused on all that we can’t do, instead of focusing on what we will do.
Well, tomorrow we’re going to make a statement.
We won’t be marginalized. We won’t be scared. We’re coming out of hiding. We’re demanding the respect we deserve.
If you believe as I believe, then I am certain I will see you tomorrow at Rosa Parks Circle at 3 p.m.
Love, Love, Love,
Brooke N. Murphy
