Gay Adoption Rights: Children Deserve Loving Families

LGBT — By on August 19, 2009 at 10:42 am

happybaby There are more than 114,000 children in the United States needing happy, healthy homes and loving families.

Consider those children whom were removed from abusive, unhealthy families and placed in foster care. Consider those children whom were placed under foster care from the time they were born. Consider those children whom have lived nearly their entire lives in the foster care system, bouncing from home to home, but still hoping for a loving home with caring, supportive parents.

The religious extremists and fundamentalists want us to believe that we’re deviants. They want society to look at us as diseased, sick souls. They campaign to criminalize us, our community, and our way of life. They wish to ruin our democracy beneath the weight of their theocratic values. The religious extremists refuse education, acceptance, and tolerance in exchange for hate, exclusion, and rejection.

We won’t return anger with anger, and we won’t fight intolerance with intolerance; but we will continue to push for our rights as human beings. Our rights to love, our rights to family, our rights to community. There is too much at stake for us not too.

There are too many children out there, too many young adults out there, too many fellow community members out there that need people like us — people who are willing to stand up and push forward.

For more information on Gay Parenting Rights, contact the National Adoption Center, an organization that has just recently launched a program focused on assisting LGBTQ families in their right to adopt children. Also, here in West Michigan, we can speak with Attorneys Michael Haddock or Nick Reister, located in Douglas, MI at (269) 857-2119. www.sheridanhaddock.com regarding our state’s specific legislature.

it might be important to spot light local organizations that do work with LGBT people with foster care and adoption services. there is only one organization that i am aware of that does not work with LGBT people and all of our local organizations are supported by religious groups and backers.

I totally agree! Our West Michigan Resources page is a constant work in progress as we look to have the most up to date and comprehensive page as possible. It’s supported largely from contributions from site visitors and community activists such as yourself. If you have any suggestions for community organizations that haven’t made their way onto the page yet, never shy away from shooting me a quick e-mail and I’ll be sure to look into it and see that their contact information is added!

Thanks for visiting, and be sure to bring your friends!
