HARTFORD (AP) — Gay and lesbian couples will be gathering at Connecticut’s Capitol to mark the one-year anniversary of the day the state began allowing same-sex marriages.

The groups Love Makes a Family and Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders say married and engaged couples from across the state will be at the Capitol’s north steps Thursday afternoon for a huge group photo, then will celebrate in the Old Judiciary Room.

State records show more than 1,700 same-sex couples have married in the state since Nov. 12, 2008, when Connecticut became the second state after Massachusetts to allow gay and lesbians to marry.

Three other states now allow gay marriage — Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire.
